Project Overview
American Water set out to create more than just a corporate headquarters in Camden, NJ — they envisioned a dynamic Innovation Center that could educate, inspire, and connect visitors to their mission of delivering safe, clean, reliable, and affordable water. At the heart of this initiative was a desire to help every visitor understand the systems, technologies, and innovations behind modern water delivery.
Challenge
American Water needed a compelling, visitor-friendly way to tell a complex story: how water gets from source to tap. They wanted to highlight their legacy, showcase current capabilities, and preview future innovations — all while keeping the content engaging for a wide variety of audiences, from students to stakeholders.
SOLUTION
ASTOUND was engaged to concept, design, and produce all digital content across three key zones: Past, Present, and Future. Each area was built around immersive storytelling and digital engagement:
The Past explored the history of water infrastructure and American Water’s legacy of innovation.
The Present showcased current technologies and operational excellence.
The Future imagined what’s next — from smart infrastructure to advanced conservation tools.
Using a mix of digital media, animation, touchscreen interactives, and dynamic storytelling, ASTOUND transformed technical content into digestible, visually-rich narratives that placed the visitor at the center.
OUTCOME
The Innovation Center now serves as a signature space for American Water — blending education, brand storytelling, and technology in one cohesive experience. It has become a destination for visitors, partners, and community members to learn about the critical work that powers modern water delivery.
