Doha Qatar Visitor Center

The Education Center in Doha has welcomed thousands of students, significantly contributing to Qatar's public outreach and helping to reduce its per capita water usage from #1 to #3.

Project Overview

To help address the urgent issue of water conservation in Qatar, ConocoPhillips partnered with New Water ReSources to create a purpose-built Education Center in Doha. Designed for school-age audiences, the center aimed to raise awareness of water scarcity, sustainability, and responsible usage through immersive, interactive storytelling.

Challenge

At the time of opening, Qatar held the distinction of having the highest per capita water usage in the world. The challenge was not only to educate young people about water conservation, but to inspire cultural and behavioral change — all within a format that would remain engaging, informative, and relevant for years to come.

SOLUTION

New Water Resources was contracted to lead the development and implementation of all interpretive elements within the center — from interactive exhibits and digital displays to environmental storytelling and hands-on learning tools. The experience was built to be educational yet entertaining, allowing students to learn through exploration, discovery, and direct interaction.

A decade after launch, the center’s success led to a full refresh of both its content and technology. The updates included new digital programming, upgraded hardware, and revised messaging to reflect evolving sustainability goals and educational needs.

OUTCOME

Over the years, the Education Center has welcomed thousands of students and become a cornerstone of public outreach in Doha. The result has been measurable: Qatar, once ranked #1 in per capita water usage, now sits at #3 — a shift driven in part by this powerful learning initiative.

Through long-term commitment and thoughtful updates, ConocoPhillips and New Water ReSources turned a single facility into a sustained movement toward environmental awareness and responsible water stewardship.
