Frequently Asked Questions

What is digital technology?

Digital technology encompasses all types of electronic equipment and applications that use information in the form of numeric code. This information is usually in binary code—that is, code that can be understood by digital processors. Digital technology includes all types of electronic devices and applications that use information in digital form, such as computers, smartphones, cameras, digital TV and radio, digital audio and video players, and industrial machinery.

When was digital technology invented?

The concept of digital technology can be traced back to the work on the binary number system by Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz in 1679. However, it was not until the mid-20th century that digital technology began to evolve significantly with the invention of the transistor in 1947. The development of the semiconductor and later the microprocessor accelerated the adoption and innovation in digital technology, leading to the digital revolution we see today.
